Episode 50: Mid-Year Check-In: Feeling Flustered or Focused?
Simplify Your Real Estate Business
It’s time for a mid-year check-in, and if you’re feeling a little flustered, you’re not alone. In this episode, we reflect on how our year has gone so far and share some honest insights on how to simplify your real estate business. Whether your business is booming or slower than usual, evaluating your progress now can help you make the necessary adjustments to finish the year strong.
Taking the Pulse of Your Business
Checking in mid-year is essential. Many agents set goals in January and forget about them until the next year. But if your numbers are off track, don’t throw in the towel. Adjust. Reset. Make it realistic. Like a fitness journey, business success requires regular check-ins. Real estate is also seasonal, so it’s okay if your monthly closings aren’t perfectly even—just make sure the trend aligns with your overall goal.
Wins Worth Celebrating
We shared what’s gone well in our businesses this year. From consistently releasing podcast episodes to completing big projects like creating a new course, accomplishments come in many forms. Progress doesn’t always look like transaction numbers. Sometimes, a win is maintaining boundaries, adapting to a new normal, or simplifying your day-to-day operations.
What Needs to Change?
To simplify your real estate business, it’s important to recognize what’s not working. For us, it meant letting go of outdated leads, saying no to misaligned opportunities, and reevaluating social media habits. Katy decided to clear out 6,000 old leads and focus on people who are ready to work with her. Alissa declined a high-volume lead source that didn’t align with her referral-based goals. Less is more when you’re intentional.
Making Work Easier
Simplifying systems and focusing on high-impact tasks can make your job easier. Organizing your office, cleaning up your CRM, or using a scheduler for social media can save mental energy. Ask yourself: Are my daily actions aligned with my long-term goals? If not, it might be time to eliminate distractions and streamline your process.
Being More Helpful to Clients
Client care doesn’t end at closing. One area we both want to improve is post-closing follow-up—checking in about homestead exemptions, termite contracts, or just sending a new baby gift. These personal touches strengthen relationships and increase referrals. Staying top of mind doesn’t require big gestures, just consistent, meaningful connection.
Letting Go of the Lead Obsession
Many agents feel overwhelmed by the pressure to generate leads. But chasing cold leads can be a drain if it doesn’t fit your business model. Focus on relationship-building and nurturing your sphere. It’s not about collecting names—it’s about staying connected to people who already know, like, and trust you.
Celebrate, Adjust, and Keep Going
Mid-year isn’t just about analyzing your numbers. It’s about checking in on how you feel. Are you thriving or surviving? What habits support your goals, and what habits hold you back? Even if your goals have shifted due to unexpected events, take pride in what you have accomplished. Reset where needed and keep moving forward.
Your Mid-Year Assignment
Ask yourself:
- What’s gone well so far this year?
- What do I want to do differently in the next half?
- How can I simplify my real estate business today?
- What tasks or mindsets are no longer serving me?
- How can I better support my clients?
Write your answers down. Simplify. Refocus. And finish the year with intention.
