Why 2020 Made Us Better Realtors: A Gratitude Reflection

It’s hard to forget how challenging 2020 was. But as realtors, that year gave us something most of us didn’t expect: growth. From adapting to uncertainty to redefining our boundaries and workflow, 2020 made us more intentional professionals. The Reset We Didn’t Know We Needed

We learned that asking for pre-approval before a showing or requiring clients to drive by a property wasn’t “rude”—it was smart and respectful. Clients appreciated structure. And agents felt empowered to protect their time and energy. The systems that once felt strict suddenly became necessary—and appreciated.

Technology Became Our Ally

2020 pushed real estate into the digital fast lane. Zoom showings, digital docs, remote closings—we adapted quickly, and most of it stuck. We became more efficient and resilient. Technology didn’t replace relationships—it supported them. That’s why many agents saw their businesses grow, even in hard times.

Fewer Showings, Better Clients

Pre-2020: show everything to everyone. Post-2020: filter first. Buyers became more selective. Agents became more strategic. The result? Less wasted time and more serious, ready-to-act clients. A win-win for everyone.

Real Connection Mattered Most

With fewer events and distractions, relationships became deeper and more intentional. We checked in on people—not just leads. Podcasting, writing, and sharing knowledge became new ways to serve when coffee dates weren’t possible. We found new purpose and stayed grounded through community and connection.

The Bottom Line: Growth Through Gratitude

2020 stripped away the unnecessary and reminded us what really matters. It helped us slow down, stay focused, and build stronger businesses with boundaries, systems, and heart. That’s why 2020 made us better realtors—and better people.
